| Assam CM Announces Guwahati to Get International Visa Center |
Announcing a major change in international travel for the people of Assam and the entire Northeast, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that an International Visa Centre will soon be established in Guwahati. Once it opens, people will no longer have to make the long and expensive journey to Delhi or Mumbai to submit biometrics for visa applications.
The Chief Minister announced via social media that VFS Global, a leading visa outsourcing and technology services company, has agreed in principle to open a dedicated visa facilitation center in Guwahati. This center will handle visa applications from more than 60 countries.
Till now, applicants from the Northeast, especially students, working professionals and tourists, had to travel to metro cities for visa-related formalities, which resulted in huge expenditure of both time and money.
**Big relief for the Northeast**
The establishment of a visa center in Guwahati is considered a major step for the Northeast region.The time and cost of preparing for foreign travel will reduced. Students and professionals will receive faster and easier visa services.Guwahati will develop as a regional international facilitation hub.
The government hopes this move will not only enhance travel convenience but also strengthen global connectivity in the Northeast.
**Fee waiver for poor students**
At the same event, the Chief Minister also provided funds to educational institutions to ensure fee waivers for students from BPL families. This benefit will apply to the first and second years of higher secondary education and four-year undergraduate courses for the 2025-26 session.
**Appointment letters to youth from tribal communities**
The Chief Minister also handed over appointment letters to 377 candidates who passed the TET or TET recruitment exam at a function held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.With this, the number of government jobs provided by the Assam government through a transparent and merit-based process since 2021 has increased to 1,35,376.
